Finally the electronics for the shifter are complete and the firmware for the PIC is in its “final” version. Now all that is left to do is finish up the shifter hardware and connect the PIC to the steering wheel. After the jump a short video shows the shifter going through gears and converting these to sequential shifts.

Nicely done! Your friend should be very pleased with the result.
I’m envious of the “learning asm” part. I remember learning 8080/Z80 asm. Just as I was beginning to learn the 8086 instruction set, Software Toolworks came out with their CP/M based C compiler for the Z80 (Heathkit H89). It fit on a 100k (hard sectored) floppy and the code was portable. So, 1980-82 was the end of asm for me.
I was about to part with my PS3, then I downloaded the trailers for GT-5… Think I’ll wait.
